Marked in red parts I took
Bogie mount inside this tube is a heavy retainer pin and flange at 2 inches in diameter at the base , when a torch cut 2 thirds threw this pin holding back the giant spring inside the tube broke hitting the fell army steps north vancouver I left the springs behind and set to work removing the huge sections of the cannon traverse unit complet connected to the base gear , then the elevation unit very heavy part required a moving company to take it to 1458 east 29th street Lynn valley my helper bill Macdonald best friend shared my interest I took both the traverse unit station and elevation station both are very heavy peices with seats for the gunners also the fuse setting unit
Made of aluminum cast and steel also I took solid brass worm gear about 100 pounds part of elevation system and I took the heavy brass shims I took the electronic box’s marked in red some where cast aluminum and solid brass
Pictures of me with the traverse station from tony parsons news hour when the cannon was taken apart at jp fell armory sokd to amix salvage by the air cadets for money the man who tried to take it apart before I arrived on the scene , the man cut 2/3 threw the massive retaining pin about 4 or more feet long at 2 inches or more as it was thicker in the middle anyway , the man had to adjust his torch the only remaining metal holding back the giant springs was cut two thirds threw thus the tension on the flange in the retainer pin broke the retainer pin sending the whole pin and springs out hitting the armory stepps about 150 feet way as well as infjuring the man the top part of the retainer pin tube section was on the ground I took the top cover of the tube and the retainer pin home then I started to remove the complete traverse unit and complet elevation units plus the work gears and the heavy brass shins and the fuse setter section plus the box’s marked in red if one can look under where the retainer pin broke iam sure still in the cannon left side. One can see. The torch and break if the steel pin the story was in the north shore news and tv programs but I cannot find the stories I should have taken the whole cannon to a storage but later somebody took the cannon a great cahallenging story bctv news shows the traverse part of the cannon https://youtu.be/s8pUsP4t3CQ
